Tera Play Button Not Working Solved Assignment

So I just bought an Alienware 13 laptop. It has been great until I ran into this problem. It's not TOOO big of a deal but just real annoying. When I downloaded minecraft, I noticed that the launcher AND game itself was a much smaller size than what it needed to be.

To help understand better the size of the screen/window difference, here is my description.

I have a 13" wide computer screen (use a tape measure if you have to) with about 3/4" of trim on both sides. So the screen itself is about 11 1/2" wide. When I open up Minecraft, it does it's launcher text stuff, (in super small window size) and then goes to the PLAY button section (which gets slightly bigger. From the inside trim edge on my screen on the right, to the right side of the window (using a tape) is about 3 1/2 inches and about the same on the other side. I just want you to know HOW small it is.

Anyway, i can re-size the window by pulling the corners to the desired width/height. The window will then stay this way until I click the PLAY button and the game launches, then I have to re-size the window all over again, but it will stay this way until I close out and re-open it. I have looked all over the internet for a solution and found similar problems, but were all fixed by something or another that didn't work for me. This also happens with SF2 (soldier Front 2). In the lobby, it is also super small, and only until I go to fullscreen when in a match, will it be...well, fullscreen.

What iv'e tried:

  1. I changed the screen resolution and it did make my programs bigger, but cut some of my desktop off and made my icons really big.

  2. I opened up the program that was having problems, re-sized it to the desired size. Then held shift and closed out (Holding shift while clicking the X button. I also did this holding Control and alt and windows key. and the FN key. And when I reopened the program, it would go back to miniature size.

I read somewhere that it might be my graphics settings or something like that, but the options in the settings they were talking about, weren't in mine.

I did however get minecraft GAME window to stay how I wanted it to by opening up the options.txt in the .minecraft folder and overwriting the window size that way. But this didn't change the launcher, only the initial game window. I have an NVIDIA graphics card if that helps. I also downloaded TERA Online and have the same problem with that aswell. It seems to mostly be with game application windows.

I hope someone has a solution, this is aggravating. :P

  • Hey,

I've a problem with the launcher. When i click the play button nothing happens. I know there are lots of treads on the internet around but non seems to have a proper answer/solution. Let me give some background info first. I started playing Tera over a year ago, played for a week and than stopped playing. I uninstalled Tera. Yesterday my house mate and I were looking for a nice MMORPG to play and I told him let's play Tera. We both installed the game at the same time, with same Wi-Fi network and all.

The weird thing is the game works for him. Opening the Gameforge launcher, press play on the Gameforge launcher, we get the Tera launcher and when pressing play nothing happens for me but Tera does start up for hm after a minute or so. Before going to bed yesterday I uninstalled Tera again and reinstalled while I was sleeping. But still it does not work.

I tried these things from advise on forums:
-Putting of firewalls (windows & Bitdefender)
-Added Tera to the white list of both firewalls
    -Reinstalling
    -Synced Windows-Time
-Added -window to destination of the laucher in properties. This proved that when i click PLAY literally nothing happens.
    -Running the launcher as Admin

Nothing seems to work that's why I posted this (I hope in the right forum section)

Thanks for reading and trying to help me out
  • When i click on the repair button it closes the launcher and nothing happens. I have installed gameforge in the programfiles map (64 bit) and not in programfiles(x86) does this maybe cause a problem?

Gameforge Live is useless junk, you don't need it to play Tera. "C:\Program Files (x86)\TERA\TERA-Launcher.exe" or whatever your path - create a desktop shortcut and start it directly.

If your connection isn't shit, then probably something is not allowing the Tera client to connect to the Internet. Try disabling your anti-virus and Windows Defender. You have no problem logging in, right? And the PLAY button is red and all? Launcher isn't downloading or patching anything?

The only thing I could suggest that doesn't involve improving your connection (do test it at speedtest.net and pingtest.net to see your speeds and packet loss), and by improving I mean plugging in your ethernet cable or at least trying when no-one else is using your network and you're not downloading any porn for example, is locating and deleting any old Tera related files in %username%\AppData\Local\TERA and %username%\AppData\Roaming\TERA. Then start the game again and re-install it if necessary. What Windows are you using? Run the launcher with -window -debug and post what you get in the log file.

    Good luck!

P.S. Repair only 'repairs' the launcher. In fact, this could cause even more trouble.

NULL(0): event.layerX and event.layerY are broken and deprecated in WebKit. They will be removed from the engine in the near future.

50 times the above sentence ( i removed it for more charachter space) the sentence under here came after it:

    Response code set [/app/mainwindow/images/resumeDownload.png:200:1355]

The response code set thingy at the end happens when i click play. I googled it and came here: tera-forums.enmasse.com/forums…eel-like-giving-up?page=2

giving this info, maybe you might know a bit more: There is basically a problem retrieving the image you see once you have logged in. I can log in. Therefore the server and my machine are talking to each other. There is no issue also because the game software downloaded and was patched. So the connectivity is not an issue. Also any problems would manifest themselves in lack of playability in Rift, Warcraft and SWToR which I have no problem with what so ever.
If you run the cmd command and fire up...

    tera-launcher .exe /window

Yoo get this when you hit the PLAY button

    Response code set [/app/mainwindow/images/resumeDownload.png:200:1355]

... this is trying to active a png image map size 200 by 1355 which no doubt everyone gets after firing up the PLAY button. It is that image that is not being retrieved. If you note it is call 'resumeDownload.png'. In otherwords it was about to activate something and that could mean more data to be installed. But the patches are misconfigured, out of sequence, the browser is out of sequence with the game software. The launcher is broken.

There are multiple lines above the statement above that say:

NULL(0): event.layerX and event.layerY are broken and deprecated in Webkit. They will be removed from the engine in the near future.

It also says that the HTTP version is not as expected and gives a map reference. And I think all that points to a manifestion of a launcher that is not as the game software expects. Hence why my button was grey when I had the first problem and the manifest would not download. Trouble is I think that maybe another total reinstall may just clear it up. I think there are some corrupt files floating around in the system from the makers end and eventually you do get a clean good version. Thing is these guys are not the developers. They just sell the product. And there are bad apples in the barrell. You may be generally OK but the patching failed twice before I even got to this position. If I reinstall I may be lucky... BUT why should I. I have done nothing wrong here. Their software fell over and it takes all the checking like listed above before they just tell you to reinstall. Which is what they have done. And I just feel like telling them to stuff their game.

I don't see anything wrong here. Lines that are related to router indicates that, it tries to open ports trough UPnP for the built in P2P client.

The Response code set [/app/mainwindow/images/resumeDownload.png:200:1355] is the same thing I get when I launch the game so this also hasn't indicates anything wrong IMO.

Just out of curiosity, check in the task manager what happens when you press the play button. If the process TL.exe and/or Tera.exe appears there (even if just for a split second), then the launcher works just fine the problem lies somewhere else then.

Which process did you add the exclusion list in the firewalls? Add TL.exe, Tera.exe and awesomium_process.exe as well, not just the launcher. (Although you said that you tried to start the game firewalls turned off so this might not help at all.)
  • Hey guys sorry i didn't respond for some time, was really busy the past week. The same day i made this tread I went to my parents home. And for some reason it worked instantly over there. Just now I tried it at my place it worked as well. Really weird because i didn't do anything different. Thanks for trying to help me out guys!
